Removal of Google apps from Play Store 'cannot be allowed' in India: IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnav

 

Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnab on Saturday said Google's decision to remove some apps from its app store in India "cannot be allowed" amid the ongoing dispute over payment of service fees to the US firm.


Google on Friday removed several Indian apps from its Play Store, including Matrimony.com's popular India matrimony and job search app Naukri, saying the companies did not comply with its in-app payment guidelines.


Vaishnav said he has discussed with Google and will meet startups, which need protection in India.

The court said the EU must pay a fraction of the legal fees sought by Qualcomm


BRUSSELS, March 2 (Reuters) - Europe's second highest court said EU regulators should pay Qualcomm ( QCOM.O ) 785,857.54 euros ($851,634) in legal fees, open a new tab, 10% less than the 12 million euros the U.S. chipmaker paid. Won an appeal against an antitrust fine.


The Luxembourg-based General Court said the hourly and hourly rates claimed by Qualcomm were "manifestly excessive".


Qualcomm submitted its legal bill to the European Commission in 2022 after the General Court upheld the US group's fight against a 997 million euro EU antitrust fine issued in 2018 and ordered the regulator to pay Qualcomm's legal costs.

ChatGPT will remember what you did last summer

 ChatGPT's new memory feature is expected to increase productivity and enhance customer experience in organizations.



OpenAI is testing a memory feature in ChatGPT, which will help remember information about users and past conversations, the company announced in a blog post. The company rolled out the feature this week for some free users and paid Plus plan users.

 

“When you chat with ChatGPT, you can ask it to remember specific things or let it pick up the details on its own. "ChatGPT's memory will improve the more you use it, and you'll start to notice improvements over time," OpenAI said in a blog post.

Microsoft and Google have invested in AI in Europe

Big tech investments may be aiming to rebuild their AI infrastructure ahead of new legislation from Brussels.




Google's parent companies Alphabet and Microsoft have both announced huge investments in artificial intelligence in Western Europe this week, likely ahead of EU AI regulations that will be introduced in April.

 

According to the French finance ministry, a new Google AI hub in Paris will eventually host more than 300 Google researchers and engineers, including members of the Chrome and YouTube development teams.

 

The new AI hub aims to accelerate the development of AI-based products in France, create new academic and research partnerships, and increase the adoption of AI tools among French workers, the French finance ministry said in a February 14 news release. release
